GARSDALE TO HAWES

A TRAINZ CLASSIC

Hawes Junction was a route included with every major release up until TS2010. It was meant to be a demo of the Settle and Carlisle route.

Being my first introduction to Trainz was TS2010, I got very familiar with Hawes Junction and the other incredible routes included.

Overtime, I acquired new versions of Trainz, the most recent being TRS22, and wanted to see Hawes Junction brought up to the standards we have today. Who else would be perfect for the job than the team at Studio Scale Trains?

Mostly working solo, I have painstakingly researched the Hawes area and tried to fit as much detail as possible into the route.

The route has been updated thru several different iterations of Trainz. First in 2019, then 22, and now Trainz Plus. I am going into Plus because HD Terrain allows me to further refine my detailing and create more intricate work. It's equally great for you, because while regular 22 users can't make changes to terrain or texturing I do in Plus, you can still download and use the route as is. It's perfect.

The alternative is me making the route in 22, losing a lot of precious details that I think really bring locations to life. There's something about HD Terrain (I'm not too familiar with it) that enhances the texture depth and the overall scaling of textures applied to a baseboard. There's no more ugly grid marks.

While I feel it's scummy to keep these incredible mechanics behind a paywall, I'll happily pay.

HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?

Is too much detail a bad thing?

It's a pretty well known flaw with Trainz, or any game for that matter, that the more detail you have the more performance-hungry your machine gets.

Most peoples' objective is to create a route that is both beautiful and still efficient on performance.

I do the first thing. Not the second.

This type of route commands a certain level of detail. I must oblige.

The route's size is virtually unchanged from it's original appearance. I have added some baseboards and sculpted them to hide ugly background cutoffs. Some hills were sharply cut off and very visible from any major sections of track.
